Our lab studies ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke in animals and in humans. We use whole genome expression studies to assess immunological changes of leukocytes in blood in patients and animals following stroke and currently are assessing mRNA and microRNA and other non-coding RNAs in stroke. We are also assessing the role of Nrf2 and oxidative stress in white matter injury in animals and humans in blood and in brain. Our work is currently supported by four RO1 grants. We are also developing an animal model of Alzheimer's Disease, and have discovered Lipopolysaccharide in plaques of human AD brains. We are pursuing the hypothesis that LPS contributes to causing sporadic Alzheimer's Disease.
