Profile Introduction

My research focus is on Molecular Cardiology. I am interested in understanding the regulation of molecular pathways in the aged heart and the mechanisms by which cardiac stem and progenitor cells alter with age. To achieve this goal, my lab works on a mouse model of early cardiac aging, which exhibits clinical manifestations of the human cardiac aging syndrome. We have isolated cardiac progenitor cells from these mice and are working to identify fundamental cellular and molecular differences between young and old stem cells. We hope that our findings will lead to the identification of strategies to antagonize myocardial aging and enhance rejuvenation.

Research Interests

Molecular signaling pathways regulating myocardial aging and cardiac stem/progenitor cell maintentance, autophagy
