Professor Andy LiWang, University of California, Merced, presents "How a Circadian Clock Generates an Internal Biochemical Representation of Time".
Professor Andy LiWang received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry at the University of Washington, Seattle and completed his Postdoctoral Fellowship at the American Cancer Society, NIH. LiWang then began as an Assistant Research Scientist at Purdue University, worked his way up, and eventually became a Professor of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of California, Merced. He was twice nominated for the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, and he won the Distinction in Research Senate Award from UC Merced and the Dorothy Crowfoot Hodgkin Award from The Protein Society. Currently, LiWang and his lab team are researching the Circadian clock of cyanobacteria. They seek to uncover the mechanisms of the persistence and reliability of this clock by interrogating the structural, biochemical, biophysical, and thermodynamic aspects of this system.
