Dr. Lotus Lofgren, Ph.D., Dept of Plant and Microbial Biology, University of California, Berkeley, presents "Conifer-Associated Ectomycorrhizal Nitrogen Use Under Global Change".
Dr. Lofgren is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Plant and Microbial Biology at UC Berkeley. Her research investigates the mechanisms that shape fungal interactions, including host specificity, competition, communication, and trait evolution across ecological scales, with a particular focus on ectomycorrhizal fungi. Her lab integrates multidisciplinary approaches combining comparative genomics, bioinformatics, molecular biology, and experimental bioassays with constructed communities. She completed her Ph.D. at the University of Minnesota, followed by postdoctoral research at both UC Riverside and Duke University as an NIH T-32 fellow. She leads the International Suillus Consortium, a collaborative group dedicated to model system development for ectomycorrhizal fungi, and is involved with multiple initiatives advancing mentorship, accessibility, and diversity in higher education.
