Speaker: Dmitri A. Nusinow, Principal Investigator and Member
Speaker Bio: Dr. Dmitri A. Nusinow studies plant responses to the environment. He obtained a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from UC San Francisco before a postdoctoral fellowship with Dr. Steve A. Kay focused on plant chronobiology at UC San Diego. He is currently a Principal Investigator and Director of Research for Sustainability at The Donald Danforth Plant Science Center. The long-term goal of the Nusinow laboratory is to understand how plants integrate environmental signals with the circadian oscillator to regulate growth and development. By understanding the molecular mechanisms that underlie clock function, we can better predict how plants respond to dynamic environments. To gain this understanding, we must 1) understand how input signals (light and temperature) are integrated with the circadian oscillator, 2) identify the mechanisms that link the clock to output pathways, and 3) explore circadian function in organisms outside of the reference plant, Arabidopsis thaliana. We will use this knowledge to manipulate gene networks to improve plant growth and development in various environmental conditions.
