Research Interests

As an educator in microbiology, I'm focused primarily on bringing the world of microbes into focus for students while building inclusive, equitable learning experiences in our courses. As a researcher, I also study microbial genetics and physiology, specifically including the application of Active Learning at large scale in microbiology courses; investigating the role of identity formation as a scientist in undergraduate education; and development of course-based undergraduate research experiences (CUREs). Each fall, I lead the BioLaunch seminar (BIS005) for new UC Davis students, which helps them explore the opportunities available to them and find their place on our large, diverse campus.
