Meet the 2021-2022 Officers of the Phi Sigma Honor Society, Delta Gamma Chapter
Each year, CBS undergraduates who have demonstrated exceptional academic performance are invited to join the Phi Sigma Biological Sciences Honor Society, Gamma Delta Chapter. Each year’s cohort of student leadership help engage with and administer society activities.
First established at UC Davis in 1984, the Gamma Delta chapter requires student members to possess a GPA of 3.5 or higher and have experience in biological sciences research. This GPA requirement is more stringent than the national requirement and reflects the excellence of UC Davis students. Prospective nominees receive an invitation to Phi Sigma events via an email from student leadership.
Meet the 2021-2022 Gamma Delta Chapter Officers
Raj Sandhu
Major: Biological Sciences
Role: President
My name is Raj Sandhu (she/her) and I’m a fourth-year biological sciences major. I’m very excited to be serving as your president for this school year. A little bit more about me is that I really like to watch and play basketball, especially with my family. I also really love to watch movies, so any new movie suggestions are always welcome! I can’t wait to be back in-person and meet everyone, if you ever see me on campus feel free to come and say hi!
Prashant Naidu
Major: Biological Sciences
Role: Vice-President
My name is Prashant Naidu (he/him/his) and I am so excited to have the opportunity to serve as your Vice President for the 2021-2022 school year. I am a 4th year Biological Sciences major with a minor in Community Nutrition. Currently, I am part of clinical research as a Research Associate with the Emergency Medicine Research Associate Program. Beyond school and research, I absolutely love cooking and nutrition (primarily plant-based meals), trying new coffee places (I love local coffee places and trying to find the best specialty espresso drinks), and spending time with my friends and family. I am a huge fan of spontaneous adventures and I love exploring new places locally and afar. Fun fact; I’m an EMT & have worked in-patient Emergency Medicine, Trauma, and Critical Care. We are so excited to welcome everyone back to campus and I cannot wait to meet you all in person!
Esha Urs
Major: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Role: Secretary
My name is Esha (she/her/hers) and I’m a fourth year Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major. I am humbled and excited to serve as your secretary for the 2021-2022 academic year! I’ve been interested in signal transduction since high school, particularly in networks involved in maintaining homeostasis and/or coordinating immune responses in plants and animals. Currently, I am exploring these interests via my ongoing work in the Dinesh-Kumar lab. Outside of lab, I love hiking, swimming and kayaking (fun fact: I took a week-long kayaking trip where I travelled down the California coast and camped on adjacent beaches). I’m also a huge movie enthusiast and am always eager to give/accept recommendations on movies and film classes available at Davis. I’m very excited to welcome you all to Phi Sigma and to campus in the fall!
Charan Karthik
Major: Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior
Role: Treasurer
My name is Charan Karthik (he/him) and I’m a fourth-year Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior major with a minor in Sociology. I am very excited to be serving on the Phi Sigma board as your Treasurer for the 2021-2022 school year. I am currently a part of the Trimmer Lab at UC Davis where I focus on doing molecular biology work and assisting with monoclonal antibody projects. Outside of school and work, I like to go out to eat, hang out with friends, travel to places, and go to the gym so that I can keep going out to eat more.
