Neuroscience Researcher Receives $1.5 Million Grant from Department of Defense to Develop New Diagnostic Tool for Hearing Loss

A $1.5 million grant from the United States Department of Defense (DoD) will help UC Davis Professor Lee Miller, Department of Neurobiology, Physiology and Behavior and the Center for Mind and Brain, expand his lab’s research on hearing loss, an issue of relevance to both aging populations and military personnel.

Veloyce Glenn Winslow Jr. Award Winner Adam Chaban Extends a Helping Hand to Marginalized Communities

During his years at the UC Davis College of Biological Sciences, Adam Chaban devoted himself to those in need. As chief of staff for the Joan Viteri Memorial Clinic (JVMC), Chaban worked to ensure that marginalized populations in the Greater Sacramento area didn't fall through the cracks in the healthcare system. For his leadership, scholarship, integrity and service to the university community, Chaban received the Veloyce Glenn Winslow Jr. Award.

Questions of Heredity: Integrative Genetics and Genomics Ph.D. Student Marwa Zafarullah Wins Emmy Werner and Stanley Jacobsen Fellowship

Marwa Zafarullah, a Ph.D. student in the Integrative Genetics and Genomics Graduate Group, investigates the pathology of a rare neurodegenerative disease called Fragile X- Associated Tremor/Ataxia Syndrome (FXTAS). As part of her Ph.D. dissertation research, she’s developing a biomarker for the early diagnosis and progression of the disease.
